The Plan

By December 7, 2018March 26th, 2020Uncategorized

Having NO CLUE how to design a house, I made the wise choice to not hire an architect or any help at all. How hard could it be?!

We had some things that we couldn’t change.  There were three walls and a giant garage door and plumbing was on one side of the building. We had to have a separate room for the girls, a full-sized washer and dryer, as well as two toilets. Non-negotiables.

I opened my computer and Adobe Illustrator. You know… professional architecture software. I drew the three walls on a 1 foot to 1 inch scale. We drew 5 different layouts. We then asked some tradesmen to come meet us at the property. We set out all of the floor plan options and asked which one would work best for the trades. Running water, AC, adding toilets, framing etc.

In the first image you can see the hand drawn electrical plans… because I didn’t think about that. The electrician and I walked the rv garage and just hand drew the plans.

Everyone agreed on one floor plan. Least amount of walls, removing concrete from plumbing and it worked for adding an AC unit.

Cassie and I sat with a roll of blue painters tape to lay out the floor plan… panic a little and then go eat Newks and cry.

While we worked on the plan, the weeds kept growing.
